Leisure centres launch open days campaign to win over more adults and children

Released on 24 August 2007

A campaign to get more adults and children using South Norfolk Council leisure centres gets under way next month with free open days.

For three successive weekends in September, there will be free Open Days at Long Stratton Leisure Centre, Wymondham Leisure Centre and Diss Swim and Fitness Centre.

On offer to adults and children are taster sessions, special offers and new classes in everything from scuba diving and kayaking, to Junior Gym, Kids Jam (dancing) and Kids Combat (fitness training).

Rob Adams, the leisure centres Business and Operations Manager said:

"This is a great opportunity to get into our three leisure centres free and try out some of the many activities available.

"It clear to us for example, that even in a village like long Stratton, not everyone is aware that there is a leisure centre with great facilities right on the doorstep.

"That's crazy at a time when people are worried about obesity, general levels of fitness and living a healthy life.

"We are investing in these centres by refurbishing them, and we need to work harder to make sure people know we are here and open for business."

All the Open Days start at 10am and booking is advisable, so organisers are suggesting people call in advance if they need further information.

The first free Open Day is at Long Stratton Leisure Centre from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 8 September. Everything from Kids Jam and Kids Combat, to Groove FX and Kickboxing for the adults, will be available. The centre can be contacted on 01508 531444.

Wymondham Leisure Centre is having two free Open days from 10am to 5pm on both Saturday and Sunday, 15 and 16 September. Pool inflatable sessions, and scuba diving for older children and adults and a climbing wall and roller disco are just some of the activities available. The centre can be contacted on 01953 607171.

The final free Open Day is at Diss Swim and Fitness Centre from 10am to 4pm on Sunday 23 September. Activities include kayaking in the pool for under 16s to Junior Gym and disabled swim sessions. The centre can be contacted on 01379 652754.
