South Norfolk Council Leader John Fuller has welcomed the Government's decision to reject Norwich City Council's piecemeal bid for unitary status.

He said:

"We are pleased that the Norwich City Council unitary bid did not pass the Government's test and that they rejected this piecemeal bid.

"We don't detect any public appetite for this health service style reorganisation, and we are confident that this is the conclusion that the Boundary Committee of the Electoral Commission will reach.

"Our primary concern is for the council tax payer of South Norfolk, and delivering the best possible services to them, in a businesslike manner.

"Anything that puts this at risk will be opposed by South Norfolk Council."
