Children, parents and guardians will be joining South Norfolk Councillor Michael Windridge to open a new play area at Knudsen Close, Hempnall.

The children will cut a ribbon with Cllr Windridge - but most important of all - test drive the new equipment for fun.

The opening is at 10.30am on Wednesday 25 July.

Their old play area has been totally transformed with outdated equipment now gone. In their place are two play spaces in one for the village - an area for toddlers and another for juniors, as well as six new pieces of play equipment.

The play area is Disability Discrimination Act compliant - an absolute requirement.

This is also in line with the council's policy of giving local children an adventure area to maximise and encourage learning, imagination, interaction, communication ... as well as fun.

Cllr Michael Windridge, Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure and Economic Development said:

"As Cabinet Member for Leisure Services I am personally committed to raising the profile of this Council's crucial responsibilities in providing leisure and school holiday activities for the children in our District.

"The whole subject of children's play and society's growing awareness of the disastrous impact the risk-free cotton wool culture that we are handing down to our children is now climbing up the political agenda, I am relieved to report."

The opening is expected to be a fun-packed hour. South Norfolk Rangers, assisted by ranger volunteers, will be attending and interacting with the children on the use of the equipment.
