South Norfolk Council is planning a fun-packed summer holiday programme of activities for children and young people.

The activities start Monday 23rd July and end on Friday 31st August.

They take place at Long Stratton Leisure Centre, Diss Corn Hall and Sports Ground, Hobart High School in Loddon, Owen Barnes Room in Costessey, Alburgh, Brockdish and Harleston Primary Schools and a number of our countryside sites around the district.

Councillor Michael Windridge, who is Cabinet member responsible for leisure and tourism has admitted he is one, relieved parent.

He said:

"As the father of a boisterous twelve year old boy, I have seen at first hand the fun and enjoyment such a holiday programme provides!

"I do hope that many of children in this district will be able to take advantage of the imaginative range of opportunities provided by this summer’s holiday programme."

He added:

"Play represents one of the most important developmental processes in a child’s life. South Norfolk Council is determined to show a firm commitment to the value of children and young people and an absolute belief in the benefits of play." There are a wide range of sport and arts-based sessions including archery, baton twirling, clay modelling, fencing, hip hop, kwik cricket, mosaics, orienteering, origami, pond dipping, roller skating, short tennis, sweet treats, trampolining, T-shirt painting, unihoc and ultimate frisbee.

Sessions last two hours and cost £4. This year, the council is announcing that for children aged 8 and over all three sessions can be booked for £10.50.

To supplement the programme, the council is also planning a series of free outdoor theatre at play areas for families.

These last an hour and anyone attending is advised to bring a rug, sun cream and a picnic!
