The fight against environmental crime and anti-social behaviour has stepped up a gear in South Norfolk as the council announces a new freephone number for reporting incidents.

South Norfolk Council is urging people to call 0808 168 2999 if they want to report anti-social behaviour, an abandoned vehicle, fly-tipping, littering, grafitti, vandalism or dog fouling, which blights the community.

And they have promised that anyone calling that number to report these crimes will get action - fast.

Councillor David Bills, Cabinet Member for the Environment said:

"Our manifesto stated we would get to grips with anti-social behaviour and other environmental crimes. This is the first stage of our attack.

"The 0808 number specifically allocated for the purpose will enable the people of South Norfolk to play their part in combatting anti-social crime."

The 0808 168 2999 freephone number is fully operational from Monday July 2 and will be publicised in the community on the sides of street cleaning council vehicles and in the council's community magazine The Link, which goes to over 50,000 homes in the Autumn.

The freephone announcement delivers the new council administration's Manifesto pledge to make it free to call the council concerning environmental crime.

It is part of the council's bigger campaign to make South Norfolk cleaner, greener and safer, to ensure South Norfolk stays a great place to live, and to build community pride.

When people see environmental crime or anti-social behaviour, they will now be encouraged to report it and expect quick action - without worrying about the cost of the phone bill.
