Council briefs business on going smoke-free

Released on 10 April 2007

Officers at South Norfolk Council are organising a breakfast briefing for business leaders on preparing for the Government’s new smoke-free law.

The new law comes into force on 1 July, and officers have set up a business breakfast for Wednesday 25 April, from 8.15am to 9.30am.

Places must be booked in advance before 18 April, by contacting Sonia Paris on 01508 533834.

From 6am on 1 July 2007, virtually all enclosed public spaces, workplaces and public vehicles in England will by law have to be smoke-free.

South Norfolk Council’s Food Control Manager, Tim Durell said:

“Business leaders will need to consider not only implementing the ban in their premises and any public vehicles, but also developing smoking policies for staff.

“We are bringing a range of experts together at the event to help clarify what the legislation really means for businesses.”
