Spread the word about the wonderful Wherryman's Way
Released on 27 May 2005
Bicycling Bob McClenning, chairman of South Norfolk Council, took a spin down to the Woods End at Bramerton today to join other community leaders for the launch of the Wherryman's Way, and the unveiling of a new statue to famous Norfolk son Billy Bluelight.
In baking sunshine and sporting his chairman's chain on top of rugby shirt and shorts, he praised Broads Authority Member and former South Norfolk Councillor Mark Wells as "a tower of imagination and commitment" for his work in bringing the Wherryman's Way vision to reality (see picture).
And he made an appeal to the launch guests: "Let's spread the word about the wonderful Wherryman's Way".
South Norfolk Council's Cultural Development Manager Heidi Hadley, who has worked closely with the designers on the interpretation scheme for the Way said: "The route makes a brilliant day out for families - children will be enthralled to meet the characters and hear the tales of Norfolk's unique wherry heritage."
Bob McClenning attended the celebrations in tandem with his wife Pat, who also loves cycling (see picture).
