South Norfolk Council has announced the date by which it will take action to remove caravans from the site at Middle Road, Denton. It is 24 July 2006.

This is the date by which the council will itself take action to stop the use of the land at Denton as a caravan site and clear all caravans on it, if the occupiers have not complied with enforcement notices affecting the site by then.

The enforcement notices requiring the caravan site use to cease expired on 11 November, without the travellers having left.

Further powers for the council to take direct action then came into force.

Solicitor to the Council, Stuart Shortman, had advised that an up-to-date human rights assessment should be carried out before serving the direct action notice. That has now been completed.

He said:

"Personal and confidential matters such as education, health, welfare - and any alternative relocation sites in the pipeline - were taken into account in determining the July 2006 date."
