Tree Wardens from 32 parishes in South Norfolk will collect more than 400 trees and over 2 kilometres of mixed native hedge plants on Friday morning from South Norfolk House. It's part of South Norfolk Council's annual campaign of support for planting by Tree Wardens during National Tree Week.

Since the scheme started five years ago in South Norfolk, Tree Wardens from 64 parishes have taken part and 3,500 trees and over 9 kilometres (almost 6 miles) of native hedging have been added to the South Norfolk landscape.

This year South Norfolk Council offered parishes the opportunity to plant Oak trees in commemoration of Nelson's bicentenary - preferably where they can be left to grow for at least 200 years.

On Monday [28 November] fifteen of these Oak trees will be planted in Tasburgh.

Tasburgh Tree Warden Steve Beckett will be joined by parishioners, students and South Norfolk Countryside Rangers to plant the trees and a new hedge on land owned by Norfolk Landscape Archaeology (NLA), managed by the parish council. Steve Beckett said:

"At the moment it is used as a public amenity and is hedged on three sides. The NLS recommended hedging the remaining boundary and are backing our plans to plant 150 metres of native hedge and the Oak trees. Helping us will be two Countryside Rangers, two NVQ students and some parishioners - about eight people in all."
