Youth group calls local bands to help with launch

The official launch of SN Youth Action will take place in Local Democracy Week with a live gig on Wednesday 20th October.
The group is looking for local bands to play at the gig, and want the bands to send in tapes or CDs.
This will provide a unique opportunity for bands to get publicity and to officially launch SN Youth Action. The South Norfolk venue is yet to be decided.
The decision came at the second meeting of SN Youth Action, held at South Norfolk House in Long Stratton today.
Mari Joyce, SN Youth Action chair, said:
“Local Democracy Week gives us the ideal opportunity for our official launch. We have also decided to hold more meetings on 15th September, 17th November and 12th January, so far.
“On 15th September, we will be judging the logo competition and the band entries. The logo competition is already under way and the closing date for this and for the tapes or CDs from the bands will be 11th September.”
SN Youth Action will be at Local Democracy Week at South Norfolk House, which begins on Monday 18th of October, establishing links with other groups and with individuals who are taking part.
The next full meeting of SN Youth Action is planned for 17th November. The group will be discussing the council’s budget for 2005.
Mari Joyce said:
“We will be looking particularly at how and where money is spent in relation to young people. This will be the first time young people in South Norfolk have had an opportunity to analyse the budget and suggest changes.”
In the New Year, at the January 12 meeting, SN Youth Action is hoping to invite local police to their meeting to give a presentation on their work and then set aside time for questions. After that, the group will be looking at the proposed environmental strategy.
Please send your band tapes or CDs, and logo competition entries to Fran Ronan, Norfolk Youth and Community Service, District Resource Base, Shelfanger Road, Diss, Norfolk IP22 4EH. SN Youth Action will be judging all entries.
