Crime survey response tops a thousand in three days

Released on 26 November 2004

Just three days after South Norfolk Council’s crime survey reached residents in its community magazine The Link, over a thousand responses have come in to the council’s headquarters.

The survey asks residents across the district to record their experiences of crime and say what they think are the priorities for action. The closing date for returns is Friday December 10th.

Residents’ answers will be a key element in shaping the South Norfolk Crime Reduction Partnership’s strategy for tackling crime in the next three years (2005/08).

Council Leader Richard Carden said:

“The support from residents for this survey, and in such a short time, is fantastic. I urge them to keep their responses coming in - we will read and act on them.

“These responses underline our belief that consulting with people on issues as important as this is the right thing to do.

“We all care about crime – we know that - but what this survey does is give residents the chance to pass on their real experiences of crime to us and to directly affect the way we and our partners, the police, go about tackling crime. That is priceless information.

“Leadership is about listening and taking action - no council should cut itself off from its residents by cutting back on consulting them. That is the worst kind of false economy.”
