Famous London Mozart Players make a family summer splash

Released on 10 August 2004

South Norfolk Council’s ‘Waterside Weekends’ series comes to an exciting climax this Sunday (22nd August) at Whitlingham Country Park.

Acclaimed Principal Percussionist of the BBC Concert Orchestra Alasdair Malloy is joined by the wind and brass London Mozart Players to take their place on the mobile bandstand for a fun water-themed concert for the family.

The London Mozart Players is one of Europe's finest chamber orchestras and, founded in 1949, is the longest established in the UK. The exceptional quality of the LMP's performances of Mozart and other classical composers is world-renowned.

Alasdair Malloy has taken his extraordinary brand of Family Fun concerts all over the UK, and regularly works with the Players in London and the South East. As well as being one of the most sought-after ‘family concert’ presenters in the country, he is also a world-leading specialist on the unusual Glass Harmonica.

With quizzes to do and percussive programmes to make, no audience member will be left idle. Strauss’s Cuckoo polka should prove particularly popular with the children, as will the much-loved ‘Water Music’ by Handel, and a strong local atmosphere will be created with Philip Sparke’s ‘Norfolk Dances’ – the Pulham Prelude, Diss Dance, Lopham Lament and Garboldisham Jig!

With music from hornpipes to shanties, there will be something to suite everyone’s nautical side. In the idyllic surroundings of Whitlingham Country Park, the concert is free, so there’s no excuse to stay at home and play computer games.

Programme:

Mozart arr. McEwan – Cosi Fan Tutte Overture Handel arr. McEwan – Suite from the Water Music Sparke arr. Malloy – Pulham Prelude Arnold – Three Sea Shanties (audience to spot the tune) J Strauss arr. Malloy – The Cuckoo Polka (audience children involved) Rossini arr. McEwan – William Tell Gallop
