Chamber orchestra on the bandstand!

Released on 28 July 2004

The mobile bandstand does it again! Last week saw the unique mobile venue make room for a baby grand piano (see photo) – and this week a 17-piece chamber orchestra takes to the stage!

An Invitation To Dance on Sunday August 1 at Pye’s Mill in Loddon, is part of South Norfolk Council’s summer programme of arts, “Waterside Weekends.”

Chamber Orchestra Anglia will play a history of dance music, with pieces by the genre’s greats from Purcell to Piazzola. Directed by Sharon Choa, the string orchestra is crammed with the region’s top, young professionals.

Top ballroom dance duo Bruce Lait and Crystal Main, will perform the dances. They were the runners-up in the recent Ballroom United Kingdom Closed Championships and are ranked in the top 18 World’s Rising Stars.

Heidi Hadley, South Norfolk Council’s Cultural Regeneration Manager, said:

“With music from Brahms, Stravinsky, Dvorâk and Strauss and the chance to learn how to glide across a dance floor, Pye’s Mill is the place to be this weekend!

“Spectators will not be left on their stripy fold away chairs for long - the dancers will offer them the chance to learn how to waltz! And, as fully trained expert dancers (!) they will be invited to join in with the finale - Richard Strauss’s Emperor Waltz.”

An Invitation to Dance takes place on Sunday August 1, at Pye's Mill, Loddon, from 3pm to 5pm.
