On Saturday July 24, the South Norfolk Alliance * (see below) launches the Community Strategy for South Norfolk 2004 to 2007. South Norfolk Council Leader, Cllr. Richard Carden said:

“We are delighted to be able to present the updated Community Strategy to our residents. It looks to the future, creating a picture of our revised vision for the district. In it we highlight the issues that matter to our residents and to us - such as homes and housing, crime, young people and the economy.

“I hope people will join us at the launch on Saturday. It will be a good opportunity to have a look at the Strategy, to find out more about our future aims and the actions we will take to make them happen.

“Thank you to everyone who has taken part in the various consultation exercises which have informed the document – we could not have created the Community Strategy without you.”

Armana Handley, South Norfolk Council’s Community Partnerships Officer said:

“With our partners, we can now put improvement projects into place, confident that we have successfully identified the needs of the communities of South Norfolk. We can start to make real progress in tackling the issues our residents want us to focus on.

“The comprehensive Programme of Action 2004-2005, which goes hand in hand with the Community Strategy, pinpoints the work we will be doing to make life in the district even better.

“Affordable housing is a top priority and we are examining a number of different schemes which will bring new, affordable homes, into the area. We are supporting the increased use of CCTV to help reduce crime hotspots and working with the police to tackle anti-social behaviour. We are also involved in schemes such as the Centre for Engineering Excellence, to increase skills and employment.

“As we say in the strategy - The South Norfolk Alliance will help to turn a shared vision into reality by being committed to specific actions.”

The launch takes place at Fairland Church, Fairland Green, Wymondham, from 11am with a free buffet prepared by Giovanni Caffe, Wymondham, at noon.

After the launch, the Community Strategy will be available on the South Norfolk Council website (from July 28 2004) www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/ or contact Mrs Armana Handley on 01508 533925.

The Community Strategy has been created after various consultations:

- With residents in the Up 2 U 2 survey and series of meetings and exhibitions

- With our partners in the Alliance, (see below for list of partners)

- Including the recent Citizen Panel consultations

Information has also been drawn from Parish Plans, Norfolk Ambition (the county-wide community strategy) and key strategies covering national priorities.
