Promotion puts local economy in the Premier League
Released on 23 April 2004
The economy of South Norfolk has just won promotion to the premier league – that’s the message from South Norfolk Council.
As tens of thousands of fans and friends celebrated with the county’s new Premiership side, Chairman Councillor Vera Alexander sent a letter of congratulations to Delia Smith and the entire club.
Recognising the huge economic benefits that Premiership football will bring to not just Norwich, but South Norfolk too, John Halliday, Cabinet member for the economy said:
“This is fantastic news for jobs and for our economy. It will raise the profile of the district, and the county – especially in Europe – where Norwich will soon be playing!”
“This is also great news for the staff and management of Lotus and Proton, one of the greatest car companies in the world and one of our biggest employers. They deserve congratulations for the support they have given to the Canaries and to our district. They certainly know how to back a winner!”
