Businesses urged to join Trade Recycling scheme

Released on 11 December 2003

South Norfolk Council is calling on businesses to go green and join its recycling effort. And already it has won the backing of Swardeston-based Veloce Motors boss Chris Harrap, who says it is saving his business money. The trade waste scheme, in conjunction with the council’s Think Twice domestic wheeled bins scheme, will cover Mulbarton, Bracon Ash, Swardeston, Cringleford, Little Melton, Bawburgh, Easton, Hethersett, Ketteringham, Long Stratton, East Carleton, and parts of Wymondham.

Letters and leaflets are being sent out to businesses in these areas, explaining how the trade scheme will work. Council Recycling Officer Kate Fairfoull says:

“We are offering a flexible service to meet the different needs of businesses. Fortnighly recycling collections can be integrated with either a weekly, or a fortnightly rubbish collection. By joining the scheme, companies are helping to improve the environment – and saving money as the Trade Recycling Collection is considerably cheaper than a trade refuse collection”

A recent survey of those using the Think Twice domestic scheme showed:

- 97% of those users who responded, were happy with the new wheeled bin recycling scheme.

- 89% were happy with the new wheeled bin refuse collection scheme.

- 90% believed the new scheme is an improvement on their household waste collection.

Now businesses are being urged to join the trade scheme. And Chris Harrop from Veloce Motors, Highfield Garage Main Road, Swardeston, who is already using the scheme says:

"A lot of our waste here is cardboard and before we started recycling, our rubbish bins were full up all the time. Now we are on the fortnightly recycling scheme we are not throwing cardboard away - it is being recycled and re-used which we are very pleased about - and we are saving money into the bargain. It's a great system which really works for us."

The cost varies according to the amount of waste the company generates. Please call the Ketteringham Depot 01603 810441 for all the details, or email tradewaste@s-norfolk.gov.uk.
