Santa Paws is coming to town!

Released on 04 December 2003

South Norfolk Council’s Dog Warden Rachael Ives is inviting dog owners to give their pets a special early Christmas treat.

The Doggie Christmas Grotto will take place on the 11th, 12th and 13th of December at Springfield's Bungalow next to South Norfolk Council’s offices in Swan Lane, Long Stratton, where owners will be able to have their pets micro-chipped.

Rachael says:

“Come along to the Grotto and get your dog micro-chipped at a special discounted Christmas price - and because it’s Christmas your pet will also receive a Doggie Christmas Stocking with doggie treats and a toy – there’ll also be a mince pie for well-behaved owners!”

The festive cost of the micro-chip is £10 – the stockings and mince pies are free!

Grotto opening times are Thursday and Friday 10am - 12 and 2pm - 4pm and Saturday 13th 10 - 12. No appointment is needed.

Rachael says that at Christmas, we need to give even more consideration to our pets: “Our houses often contain extra people at this time of year, meaning that doors can easily be left open and dogs are then able to wander. So make sure your dog is fitted with an identity tag and microchip. And remember, just because we like to consume large quantities of food at Christmas doesn’t mean it is appropriate for our dogs to do so. A few extras won’t hurt but sudden changes to dogs’ diets can cause severe stomach upsets."

Finally, if you are planning a holiday this festive season you should have already secured a place for your dog at kennels as they get booked up very quickly. But if you are still looking for a place your local dog warden should be able to help by providing details of registered kennels or home pet carers in your area.”
