Council welcomes Audit Commission report
Released on 17 November 2003
South Norfolk Council Leader Richard Carden has welcomed the report of the Audit Commission’s first ever comprehensive inspection of the council, which has rated it as “Good”, on a scale of excellent, good, fair, weak, poor.
The rating follows a detailed inspection of the council’s main services and its ability to improve, which included a major on-site inspection in July. The final score also includes a report from the Benefit Fraud Inspectorate and an assessment of how the council deals with environmental issues, like refuse collection, litter, community safety, and planning and “how it manages housing”.
Richard Carden said:
“I am delighted that both our community leadership and the quality of our services have been recognised. The way in which the Council is organised has also been commended. The assessment has indicated that we are well placed to make further progress and we look forward to implementing the improvement plan that is currently being prepared."
Geoff Rivers, Chief Executive said:
“This is good news for our community. It shows, from an independent source, that we’re putting the people of South Norfolk first in everything we do. But we are not complacent. We are already working with staff and partners on plans to deliver the improvements the Commission have identified."
