Learning Community needs your help

Released on 07 November 2003

South Norfolk Council, on behalf of the Diss Learning Community, is asking people to let them know if they are interested in helping the Learning Community to establish the level and types of learning needed in and around Diss.

Tim Bacon from South Norfolk Council’s Economic Development Team, and the acting Chairman of the Learning Community says:

“We need people to get involved in two ways. Firstly we are inviting tenders for those who have the skills and experience to research the learning needs of individuals, communities and employers in and around Diss. We want to give local people or organisations the opportunity to undertake the research project into the learning needs of the community. Tenders will be shortlisted, and shortlisted applicants may be invited to give a presentation to the Diss Learning Community Steering group.

“Secondly, if you are a resident or business owner who would like to interviewed about the learning needs and skills gaps in the area, we would like to hear from you too.”

The research will be fed into a learning strategy and the next steps will be to co-ordinate provision and initiate new provision where necessary and appropriate.

Over the past seven years, a network of 17 local learning communities has developed across Norfolk. These communities aim to promote a culture of lifelong learning as a means to social and economic renewal. Each learning community is unique to the area it serves, and provides an effective way of identifying local learning needs and to developing local learning solutions.

The current list of partner organisations of the Diss Learning Community includes South Norfolk Council, Diss Town Council, local schools, businesses, Youth and Community Services, the Diss and District Development Partnership Ltd, The Exchange Project and local residents with an interest in promoting life-long learning in the area.

If you want to get involved, or to put in a proposal to undertake the research project, please contact Tim Bacon: 01508 533834, as soon as possible, for further details.
