Council backs anti-racism leaflet

Released on 23 October 2003

South Norfolk Council has joined other councils and the police to help mark a week of anti-racism action in football, which culminates in a mass handout of leaflets by Norwich City Supporters Trust this Saturday.

Last month, the Trust approached South Norfolk Council for a contribution of £250 to back the leaflet. They had an initial grant from the Football Foundation and from the anti-racism campaign Kick It Out, which meant the Trust was able to produce 20,000 leaflets. Support from South Norfolk Council and other organisations mean 60,000 leaflets have now been produced, which will also go into schools, libraries, community groups, to local football teams, Council offices and community centres.

Ian McArthur, South Norfolk Council’s Head of Corporate Affairs said:

“This Council is committed to equal opportunities and combating racism in all its forms. Many families and young people travel from South Norfolk to join the tens of thousands of other fans who support football every week. It is important that they know where their council stands in this campaign to kick racism out of the game. We congratulate Norwich City Supporters Trust for this initiative.”
