Hands holding a globe

The Council’s Environment Strategy was first published in 2006. The Strategy has recently been updated and the revised version covers the period 2008 – 2012.

The majority of actions remain unchanged, but the revised Strategy places a greater emphasis on climate change and the need for the Council to take a lead in the community to reduce CO2 emissions and prepare for future climatic impacts.

Environment Strategy Action Plan

The Environment Strategy identifies actions covering eight key policy areas:

  1. Managing the Council’s environmental impact
  2. Understanding and preparing for future climatic impacts in South Norfolk
  3. Reducing the use of natural resources and energy consumption
  4. Transport
  5. Air, land and water quality
  6. Bio- and Geo-diversity
  7. The built and urban environment
  8. Waste management

These actions will not only achieve local benefits, but also contribute to wider national and international aims.

Delivering the strategy in partnership

Although focusing on what we as a council can do to make a difference, it is recognised that for this strategy to be successful it will require the active participation of other agencies, organisations and all sections of the community.

By working together we aim to safeguard our environment, which is so essential to our quality of life now and in the future.
