South Norfolk Council’s Olympic-themed film festival will be launched on 5 February with a screening of the British classic Chariots of Fire at the Regal Cinema in Wymondham.

This is the first of eight inspirational films which celebrate British and International achievement to be shown throughout the district’s Village Halls and community centres in the month long ‘True Film Festival’.

The Council has been working closely with Creative Arts East and village groups to host the festival which forms part of the Council’s contribution to the Cultural Olympiad.

South Norfolk Council’s Deputy Leader Martin Wiby said:

“This is South Norfolk’s first ever film festival and is not to be missed! Come along to a screen near you and be inspired by stories of victory in the face of adversity.”

As well as Chariots of Fire, movie goers will also be able to watch The Flying Scotsman, Cool Runnings, Iris, Made in Dagenham, The Blind Side, Topsy Turvey and Nurse Edith Cavell.

Parishes taking part include: Shotesham, Trowse, Bergh Apton, Marlingford, Hethersett, Swarderston, Long Stratton, Thurton, Saxlingham Nethergate and Dickleburgh.

Councillor Wilby added:

“We are holding a range of events in the run up to the Olympics which are inspiring our communites to get more fit and active. We hope the Festival and our other events will leave a lasting legacy for the arts in South Norfolk.”
