Your payment Card questions answered
Do I take any information to the Post Office or PayPoint apart from the card?
Please refer to the latest bill or letter we have sent you, to make sure you know how much you need to pay, then just take your card and your payment. You cannot make a payment without the card.
Can the card be used in banks, building societies or at South Norfolk Council offices?
No, it can only be read and accepted at Post Offices and PayPoints.
How do I find out where there are PayPoint outlets?
A list of PayPoint outlets is given above, or you can search for your nearest one at the PayPoint website (link under 'external links' below). Look out for the PayPoint logo in shops and petrol filling stations. PayPoint outlets are usually open from early in the morning until late in the evening, and at weekends.
How can I find out if a PayPoint retailer will accept payment by cheque/debit card?
Please ask the retailer concerned. If they will accept cheque payments the cheque will need to be made payable to the retailer.
What information is held on the card?
Unique information that relates to your payment reference number, which makes sure that your payment reaches us correctly. The card does not hold information relating to the balance on your account. The card is not a credit card, debit card or cheque guarantee card and has no monetary value.
How long will the card last?
The card should last you for up to five years. If your card is lost, worn or damaged so that it can no longer be read, you must let us know immediately. We will arrange for a new card to be issued to you as soon as possible.
What happens if I move?
Please tell us straight away. If you are still living in our area wherever possible we try to use your existing account reference. When this is not the case a new card will be issued and you should destroy the old one. If you move outside our area but are still due to make payments to us, please continue to use your original card.
Is it important which name(s) are on the card?
Any names on the card are not used in processing the payment. They should refer to one or more persons liable to pay the charge. Only pay using a card in someone else’s name if you intend to make a payment toward their charges.
