Cycling Strategy ('Bike it!')

Summary

As most personal trips are made over relatively short distances and many people own a bicycle, cycling is an eco-friendly form of transport which can also be convenient, accessible, healthy and cheap. This is our strategy to encourage more people to cycle.

National cycling strategy

The National Cycling Strategy (1996) aims to encourage the use of cycling substantiallyby 2012, while encouraging local authorities such as ourselves to set targets to increase cycle use and to adopt a cycle strategy.

We have long encouraged cycling and sustainable transport, and will continue to do so. This cycling strategy sets out our contributions to those aims.
