More than 70 planning agents and architects from across Norfolk are expected to attend South Norfolk Council’s major conference on access and design in local developments.

The Council is the first in the county to hold such a major event to explain radical changes to the development control system, recently introduced by the Government.

South Norfolk Council receives hundreds of planning applications every year, and from now on these applications will require agents and architects to be clear about the design and access arrangements of their proposed developments.

Council Conservation and Design Architect David Edleston who has helped organise the event with Paul Whitham, Development Control Service Manager has welcomed the show of interest from across the county.

He said:

“I think the interest in our conference is a clear indication of the importance of these changes, and demonstrates the hunger among planning agents and architects for practical advice and information.

“That we are holding this event should be no surprise however, because we have consistently made design one of our key priorities.

"Our sixth annual Design Awards is also testament to this, and nominations for this year’s awards close in just four weeks on 1 September.”

He added:

“We welcome the changes not just because they support the work we have been doing, but because they strengthen the powers we have to insist on better design in the development proposals we receive.”

The conference called “Changes to the Development Control System” starts at 5pm and closes at 7pm today.
