Heart charity gets £1,500 boost

Released on 01 August 2006

Staff at South Norfolk Council have raised £1,500 for the British Heart Foundation, after a year of fund raising events.

Soaring temperatures tipped July into the record books as the hottest month since 1914, so staff donned Hawaiian shirts and shorts for a final day of fun to support their nominated charity for 2006.

While thousands of families got on the beach for the final day of the Lowestoft Air Show, council staff brought the atmosphere of the beach inside their HQ. They greeted customers in flower garlands and held a lunchtime barbeque.

This year’s activities have included a sponsored bike ride, Christmas fayre, carol concert, and sale of recycled mugs.

On Thursday 3 August, Robin Taylor, Landscape Officer and Chair of the South Norfolk Council Sports and Social Club will hand over the cheque for £1,500 to a representative from The British Heart Foundation.

Robin said:

“The support from staff has been fantastic and we've had a great deal of fun raising funds for a very worthy charity which helps thousands of people every year.”
