Rangers to the Rescue

Released on 31 July 2006

South Norfolk Council opened its season of Children’s Outdoor Theatre with an unexpected guest appearance from its own team of Countryside Rangers.

The first outdoor theatre production was due to be ‘The King’s got Donkeys Ears’ but an accident on the junction of the A11 and A14 stopped the production company from making it in time for the show.

Rather than disappoint the eager, young theatre-goers, the Council’s Countryside Rangers stepped in at the last minute to entertain the children and parents who had turned up at Alan Avenue, Newton Flotman.

The make-up brushes were replaced with tools and the children enjoyed an afternoon of bird box making.

Sonia Bright, the Council’s Events Co-ordinator said:

“We were really concerned when we found out there had been an accident. Fortunately, the theatre company members were not involved directly, but like many others got caught up in the traffic jam that followed.

“The children really enjoyed the bird box making, and we can only thank our Countryside Team for stepping into the limelight and putting on a show of their own.”

There are still six more Children’s Outdoor Theatre productions planned for the summer, each held on Friday afternoons at 3pm. The next production is ‘King Chimp’ which can be seen at Taylor Road, Diss this Friday, 4 August.

For details of the rest of the summers productions, see the Council’s website at www.south-norfolk.gov.uk or call Sonia Bright on 01508 533622.
