Council suspends outstanding achiever awards

Released on 21 July 2006

The current Outstanding Achiever Award Scheme administered by South Norfolk Council Leisure Services is currently suspended whilst a full review of the criteria for the programme is undertaken.

Alison Furlong, Leisure and Sports Development Manager said:

"This is to ensure the scheme reaches as many talented and outstanding young achievers as possible and to ensure the most effective use of this resource.

"In order to achieve this, we want to focus more on the celebration of achievement of the young person and reach more participants.

"Key features of the new scheme will include an annual application process and awards ceremony, asking the award recipient to attend an event as part of their commitment to the scheme and promote and support of local events.

"In the short term, we will consider requests for assistance for talented young people who have specific events coming up at county, regional, national or international level and these will be considered on their individual merits.

"It is expected to launch the new scheme towards the end of 2006 and applications and awards presented by end of March 2007."
