Wymondham is to get its long-awaited new library after South Norfolk Councillors gave the go-ahead for it to be sited on its land.

The decision came at the council's Cabinet this morning, which was also attended by the Mayor of Wymondham, Joe Mooney, who is a district Councillor representing Northfields ward. He was delighted at the decision:

"This is excellent news for the town, and I hope that work can start on the chosen site as soon as possible. Wymondham is a growing town and we desperately need a new library.

"I am delighted that South Norfolk Council has been able to come to an agreement with their partners in this - Norfolk County Council - which enables this project to go ahead."

Councillor Eppie Zandvoort, Cabinet Member for the Economy, said:

"Wymondham has been waiting 15 years for this new library, and we are very pleased that finally a place for it has now been identified.

"The site is land belonging to South Norfolk Council and we are delighted to be able to help Wymondham, and Norfolk County Council to achieve this by making our land available.

"This is a win win situation for everyone."
