Community grants

Summary

If the community where you live has come up with an idea which will make a difference, we may be able to offer financial help to get your project off the ground with our Community Grant Scheme. During 2007/08 the scheme provided funding for 35 different projects.

Read the guidance notes for further information and to see if your project would qualify for a grant, and how to apply for it.

Please note, the Community Grant is now closed to new applications as funding has been awarded.

How much can you apply for?

This round of funding is intended for larger projects which need advice and support to enable them attract external funding. The maximum grant that you can apply for is £5,000.

For localised projects up to £2,000 you may be eligible to apply to the Neighbourhood Fund – www.south-norfolk.gov.uk/democracy/2981.asp.

Types of projects we can support

  • Local projects run by local people to benefit local people, and;
  • Projects which aim to create community resources and activities.

Please discuss your proposal with the Funding Officer at the earliest opportunity - contact details are at the foot of this page.

Types of projects we cannot support

  • General revenue costs (utility bills, maintenance, salaries);
  • Items or projects which only benefit individuals (eg bursaries);
  • Activities promoting political or religious beliefs;
  • Activities that form part of statutory obligations (eg curricular activities in schools);
  • Projects with high ongoing maintenance costs – unless the applicant can clearly demonstrate that they have the funds and skills to maintain the project once funding ends, and;
  • Projects which are essential to maintain and upkeep a facility or an organisation rather than to improve or expand facilities or services offered.

How to apply for a grant

We aim to create an easy process for community and voluntary groups to apply for funding for their project, which will make a real difference to the lives of the people in South Norfolk.

We recommend you read the Guidance Notes (available to under ‘Downloads’ above) which explain the terms and conditions of the grant and the application process.

Request an Application Pack
