Council tax appeals

Summary

There are two types of council tax appeals:

  • appeals against band valuation (e.g. you don’t think your property should be in the Band it’s been put in), and;
  • appeals against the council tax payment (where either you shouldn’t be paying the full amount of council tax or you shouldn’t be paying it at all).

Further information

Valuation appeals

Your bill shows which band your home has been placed in for council tax purposes, and you can download the full list of charges from our Charges & banding page.

You can appeal against the valuation banding within six months of becoming the council tax payer. Also, if your council tax band changes you have six months to appeal. The Listing Officer (not the Council) is responsible for the banding.

If you want to appeal you have to write to the Listing Officer for the Valuation Office Agency at:

Rosebery Court
Central Avenue
St Andrews Business Park
Norwich NR7 0HS
Tel: 01603 241000
Fax: 01603 241099
