Council tax charges & banding
Summary
Your property is in a council tax band, which determines how much tax you pay. There are eight bands – Band A – H. The Valuation Office decides which band your property is in, and this is based on its market value on 1 April 1991. The following table shows what band a property goes in, based on its value on 1 April 1991:

If you don't agree with the banding of your property
You can appeal against the valuation banding within six months of becoming the taxpayer. Also, if your council tax band changes you have six months to appeal. For more information visit council tax appeals.
