Broadband connection from BT
BT has made a great deal of progress in offering Broadband across South Norfolk, but there are still some properties that cannot access Broadband through their telephone exchange. This could be because of a number of reasons. The most common reasons are:
- The property is located too far from the exchange for the technology to work.
- The property has a line-sharing device on its line. This is a method that BT uses when the number of telephone lines feeding a cluster of properties is insufficient. Broadband requires that a line is not shared. BT will automatically attempt to remove a line-sharing device should you place an order for Broadband with an Internet Service Provider (ISP) of your choice.
- The quality of the telephone line to your property is insufficient to support Broadband.
You don't have to order broadband through BT. If your premises is connected to a Broadband enabled BT telephone exchange, and you want to receive your broadband through your telephone line, you can order broadband through most Internet Service Providers (ISPs).
Alternatives to broadband from BT
There are alternatives to getting a Broadband connection from BT. There is one company offering wireless Broadband across the district. Wireless Broadband essentially means having a small dish mounted on the outside of your property to send and receive your signal.
The technology on offer is capable of running at much faster speeds than that which you can currently get through your telephone exchange. Your connection can also be synchronous, meaning that you can both send and receive information at the same speeds. Broadband through your telephone exchange is asynchronous, meaning that the connection receives information faster than it sends.
Satellite broadband
If you are unable to receive Broadband through any of the methods discussed so far, your last resort is Satellite Broadband. Satellite Broadband is more expensive per month but will work anywhere. If you need to follow up this solution then please contact us and we can help.
