Remember this calculation is an estimate based on the information you supply. The calculator will be accurate in the vast majority of cases but has been deliberately kept as simple as possible. In some cases it may give a higher figure than you would actually get.
For a full assessment of your entitlement make a formal benefit claim as soon as possible. Usually benefit will only start from the Monday after we receive your form. A telephone call to us or an e-mail can count when we are deciding this date.

Do you live in privately rented accomodation?
If you rent your home privately andnot through a Housing Association or similar organisation, you will need first to look at the Local Housing Allowance web page to find out your maximum possible benefit. Enter this in the ‘rent’ box on the estimate form below. It will normally not be the same as the actual rent you pay, and in some cases may even be higher.

While you are completing this form you may notice that some of its fields don't work as you would expect. This is most likely due to answers you have given to previous questions -- for example; you will not be able to complete any fields related to single lone parent questions (step 6) if you've not chosen the 'single' option at step 3!
