How we pay benefits

Summary

Housing benefit

This is paid straight into your bank account every four weeks in arrears. If you are a Housing Association tenant, we can pay your benefit straight to your landlord. We have to pay your landlord if you owe eight+ weeks rent, and we won’t pay Housing Benefits by cheque.

Council tax benefit

This is paid directly to your council tax account, and a revised council tax bill will be sent to you.
