Housing & council tax benefit
Council tax & housing benefit is for people on a low income to help meet the cost of rent and council tax. Benefits are means tested so the money you earn and the money you have saved, together with your household circumstances, will affect the amount of help you may be entitled to.
Important! Do you live in privately rented accomodation?
If so you may qualify for the Local Housing Allowance - a new system for helping people to pay their rent - instead of housing benefit. If you are, you will need to fill out a different claim form, so make sure you know which is the right one for you by visiting our Local Housing Allowance pages.
