Swine Flu update

Summary

If you are concerned you have symptoms of swine flu, it is important that you avoid contact with other people as much as possible until it has been confirmed or you are told you have not got the swine flu virus. People you live with, or with whom you have had recent close contact, should also monitor their health and follow the advice if they get symptoms.

Swine flu continues to be a mild illness for the majority of people, but if you think you have the virus:

  • Go online and check your symptoms at NHS Choices, or; 
  • Call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47, or;
  • Call the Swine Flu information line on 0800 1 513 513

REMEMBER: Catch It, Bin It, Kill It

You can reduce, but not eliminate, the risk of spreading swine flu by following this hygiene advice:

  • Cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing, using a tissue
  • Dispose of dirty tissues promptly and carefully
  • Maintain good basic hygiene, for example washing hands frequently with soap and water to reduce the spread of the virus from your hands to face or to other people
  • Clean hard surfaces (eg, door handles) frequently using a normal cleaning product
  • Make sure your children follow this advice
